July 26 - Georgia BMT (Benton MacKaye Trail)Work Trip: Joint trip with the Forest Service and Cohutta Wilderness Area volunteers. The next scheduled volunteer trail work day is now slated for July 26th in the Cohutta Wilderness.... This is our annual Hemptop Trail maintenance blow-out event. We will be joining forces with the Benton MacKaye Trail Association and Back Country Horsemen of North Georgia to tackle all the trimming and slingblading needs on this 5.4-mile ridgetop trail. To accomplish all the identified work, we will need a big turn-out. Can we count on your attendance? Plan to meet at the Dally Gap Trailhead at 9:00 AM. To reach the trailhead from Ellijay, travel north on Hwy 515 to Blue Ridge. Turn left at the McDonalds following Hwy 5 and go 4 miles. Turn left onto State Route 2 and drive 10.5 miles to the Watson Gap 4-way intersection. Turn right onto Forest Road 22, following the directional sign to Dally Gap, and go about 4 more miles to the trailhead. Bring a pair of work gloves, bug repellent, plenty of drinking water (2 quarts or more), a sack lunch and snacks, and a day pack to carry everything in. RSVP to Larry Thomas: 706 / 695-6736 Ext. 103
